Acne Myths Information

Acne is infectious - Not true. It will not spread to other parts of the body, nor from one person to another.

Blackheads are dirt - The dark colour of blackheads is due to the melanin pigment in skin cells, which darkens when exposed to air and light. Neither washing nor cleansers will remove it, and they are likely to make things worse.

Oily skin causes acne - Oily skin means that the sebaceous glands are draining well - the very opposite to the blocked ducts that cause acne.

Chocolate and other foods cause acne - In spite of all the rumours about enjoyable things causing acne, it has been proven beyond doubt that diet has no effect on sebum production or acne.
